2, 9 & 16 – Hand building with Clay for Children (Ages 5-7) 1 - 4 p.m. at the Quandary Antiques Cabin. Children will have fun learning to manipulate clay using it to express their ideas while mastering basic techniques. This class will cover pinch, coil, and slab hand building techniques as well as glazing. Instruction by Michelle Woods Pennisi. $50, includes all materials.

4, 11, 18, 25, June 1 - Fire it Up! Hand building with Clay for Pit Firing Pit firing – Saturday and Sunday, June 6th and 7th
Learn or refine your hand building skills with instruction from five different ceramic artists. Each session will feature a different artist, Michelle Woods Pennisi, Iris Peterson, Jenn Cram, Syma and Sumi Von Dassow. Completed projects will be fired in a pit in the Arts District on June 6th and 7th. This is a workshop that no mud enthusiast should miss. Meets at the Quandary Antiques Cabin. $100 for 5 sessions, all materials and pitfiring.

5 - Mi Casa 26th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration - 5 p.m. at Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant and Cantina. A fundraiser featuring happy hour drink prices, an all-you-can eat Mexican buffet, silent auction and open mic. $20 adults/$12 kids. 970.453.2071

8 - Space 2 Studio 4 – 6 p.m. at the Fuqua Livery Stable. An alternative studio for teens. Learn a new medium each session. On Friday, May 8th, experiment with oil pastels. First visit is free, $5 studio fee thereafter. Instruction by Nancy Branca.

8, 9, 10, 15, 16 - Charlie and Knickerbocker’s Big Live Show - 7:30 p.m. at The Backstage Theatre, 121 S. Ridge St. The fabulously funny and talented Charlie Schmidt explodes back onto the Backstage with his faithful stuffed dog Knickerbocker in an off-the-wall comedy creation of puppets, multi-media, and gross-out humor that could only be described as a Big Live Show! 9 - Second Saturdays in the Arts District - 4 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Breckenridge Theatre, Fuqua Livery Stable and Tin Shop. Stroll through the Arts District on each Second Saturday of the month and enjoy new exhibitions at the Breckenridge Theatre Gallery featuring the artwork of local artists and the studios at the Fuqua Livery Stable and the Tin Shop. 13 - Life Drawing Studio 7 -9 p.m. at the Fuqua Livery Stable. Join us for a casual two-hour drawing workshop with a nude model. This open format class will strengthen your mass vs. line skills with paint, pencil, or 3D mediums. No previous life drawing experience needed. Studio led by Lisa Rivard. $15 includes the model, bring your own drawing materials.

14 - Dipping Into Oils 5 - 7 p.m. at the Fuqua Livery Stable. This course is designed to teach the aspiring oil painter the basics of oil painting in the “alla prima” and impressionistic techniques. Color mixing, brush techniques, composition, and subject matter are some of the topics that will be covered. Students should provide their own materials, a suggested materials list will be provided, we have many materials to share. Instruction by Amy Evans $75.

16 – Town Clean Up Day – 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Volunteers meet at the South Gondola Lot to receive bags, gloves, and an area to pick up trash. Afterwards, enjoy a free BBQ picnic at Carter Park with live entertainment and raffle prizes. ONLY general household trash will be accepted for free at the South Gondola Lot from 9:00 a.m. to noon. No others items will be accepted at the lot for disposal. 16 - Shibori Textiles 1 - 4 p.m. at the Fuqua Livery Stable. Come spend three Zen hours learning SHIBORI, a traditional Japanese tie-dying technique. In this method, dye is resisted by stitching, binding, folding, twisting, clamping, and compressing fabric. We will experiment with string to wrap and compress silk fabric around a pole, and will utilize traditional stitching techniques to create unique, organic patterns. Don’t miss this chance to learn the ancient textile art of Shibori. Instruction by Theresa Ducayet Clowes, $35 includes all materials.

16 – Night at the Historic Museum with the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance - 5-8 p.m. at the Barney Ford House Museum, 111 E. 17 - Intro to Precious Metal Clay 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Fuqua Livery Stable. PMC (precious metal clay) is a relatively new material developed by Mitsubishi that looks and feels like clay, yet when fired, it becomes pure, solid metal. This class will cover the basics of carving and forming the clay. We will complete at least two projects and additional clay and books and tools can be purchased. Instruction by Yvonne Kuennen $75 includes all materials.

20 - Mono-printing with Markers 4:15- 6:15 pm at the Robert Whyte House. This workshop explores the art of printmaking by examining many types of printed images. Children will draw with watercolor markers on Plexi-glass, creating expressive, original prints. Instruction by Nancy Branca $25 includes all materials.

21 - Mountain 2 Mountain Movie Night - 7 p.m. at the Speakeasy Movie Theater. Join international nonprofit Mountain 2 Mountain for a screening of Afghan Star, an Afghan documentary selected as a 2009 winner at the Sundance Film Festival. 22 - 24 - Quantum Sports Club Sports Swap - Friday May 22nd, 5pm - 8pm, Saturday May 23rd, 10am - 5pm, Sunday May 24th, 10am - 2pm, Located at the Breckenridge Riverwalk Center. All sports equipment is welcome. We have skis, bikes, fishing gear, skateboards, hockey gear, snowshoes, camping gear, kayaks, rafts, tennis rackets, golf clubs, canoes, and much more. Entrance fee is $3 on Friday, and $1 on both Saturday and Sunday. Items can be donated for sale or sold by Quantum Sports for the seller and the club keeps a percentage. 28 - Textile Club 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the Fuqua Livery Stable. Drop in and try Batik, Silk Painting, and Tie-Dying with experienced instruction. No experience necessary for great results. 30 - Elements of Drawing (Ages 9-12) 1 – 4 pm at the Robert Whyte House. Designed to open “artist’s eyes”, this class will stimulate children to become aware of their surroundings as possible drawing subjects, sharpening their observation skills. They will learn how to compose a drawing. Elements such as lines and shapes, lights and shadow, perspective and shading will be demonstrated. Various drawing tools will be introduced and experimented with. Sketching techniques will be demonstrated, and “sighting” to draw accurately will be taught. Students will take home a kit of drawing tools and a sketchbook. Instruction by Danna Clark Tullis $25 includes all materials.
